First aid course overview

These courses are approved and certificated to ensure that your first aid needs are met to enable certain employees to be qualified as first aiders.

  • This course is taught over six hours for a minimum of one day
  • Understanding the importance of preventing cross-infection
  • Understanding the need for recording incidents and actions
  • The use of available equipment
  • Assessing the situation and circumstances in order to act safely, promptly and effectively in an emergency
  • Administering first aid to a casualty who is unconscious, having a seizure, choking, wounded and bleeding or suffering from shock
  • Administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation
  • Provide first aid care to a casualty for minor injuries including small cuts, grazes, bruises, minor burns, scalds and small splinters

Continual tutor assessment
Complete one worksheet.

First aid at work course overview

This course is taught over 18 hours for a minimum of three days
It includes all the elements in the Emergency First Aid course plus:

  • The ability to act safely, promptly and effectively when an emergency arises in the workplace
  • Administering first aid safely, promptly and effectively to a casualty who is unconscious, wounded or bleeding, burned or scalded, suffering from bone injury, muscle injury, joint injury, shock, eye injury, poisoned, or overcome by gas/fumes
  • Transporting a casualty to safety as required by the circumstances of the workplace
  • The recognition of minor illnesses and taking appropriate action
  • Maintaining records and providing written information to a doctor or hospital if required
  • Understanding the importance of personal hygiene in first aid procedures
  • Understanding the legal framework for first aid provision at work
  • Demonstrating the use of first aid equipment provided in the workplace.

Assessment:

  • Continual tutor assessment
  • Demonstrate
  • CPR on an adult manikin
  • Demonstrate first aid for an unconscious casualty
  • Demonstrate ability to carry out first aid for a workplace emergency
  • Complete two worksheets.

Both qualifications are valid for three years and annual refresher options are available and highly recommended. The First Aid at Work Course requires to be refreshed before the end of the three year expiry date and will consist of a 12 hour course taught over a minimum of two days.
