Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme (CJRS) Extended

18 December 2020 | Hema Mistry

The Government announced yesterday the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme (CJRS) has been extended until 30th April 2021.

They have also confirmed they will continue to pay up to 80% of the employees’ salary for hours not worked; this will continue until 30th April 2021.  Employers will continue to pay for the hours worked and the NI and pension contributions as per the existing arrangements.

They will not review the CJRS payment arrangements at the end of January 2021 as originally announced. By bringing the announcement forward the Government are enabling businesses to ‘plan aged for the remainder of the winter and the New Year’.

No further amendments have been announced; however this is a fluid situation and things may change further.  The current CJRS rules differ from the original furlough scheme accounted during the first lockdown period.  The rules are complex; for further advice and support please call the advice line on the usual number.  Our advice lines are open throughout the festive period.
