In the event of a fire it is important to ensure that everyone in the workplace is alerted as soon as possible. Prevention is the primary requirement of fire risk control, but the early detection of fires and raising the alarm are also vital in protecting people and property.

Consideration should be made to those areas of the premises that are unoccupied or not regularly frequented by employees, visitors or contractors and where a fire is likely to go undiscovered for longer periods of time.

In unoccupied areas, automatic fire detection should be fitted.  Fire detection systems provide an early warning of a developing emergency situation and are intended to notify the occupants to evacuate the building in the event of a fire or other emergency situation.
